Woods & Trails

With ever-increasing crowds part of the landscape of Acadia, the best place to escape to is the woods. There you can get lost for hours on end. But the woods are chaotic, with dead trees littering the ground, new shoots popping up and mature trees everywhere; it’s hard to make images in the woods. As an artist, I try to make sense of that chaos, by seeking compositions that will create order out of the mess. It’s always a challenge, but when you find those compositions that work, it’s very satisfying.

Trails take us on a journey, and whatever journey you’re on, there’s a trail in Acadia to take you there, whether it’s deep in the woods on your own, or on a well-travelled boardwalk. Images of trails become metaphors for life. We’re all on our own journeys and none of us really know what’s round the bend, and that’s the beauty of these images– they make you want to take those paths, and keep you wondering where they lead to.
